Ugh, I just lost a long race report. I'll have to redo a full version later.

In a nutshell: Learned about this race earlier this week and since Heather and I were planning to be up at the Bear Lake cabin, it seemed to make sense. I also persuaded Jon Allen to drive over from Logan to join me. The race  had a lot of inaugural pains, such as a major problem with the distance. It was at least 7 miles, even if my Garmin was reading really long, as the times reflect. Jake Rushton won in 40 something. Jon was second, about 30 seconds ahead of me.  I was with Jake through 2 and then he gapped me. I was ahead of Jon through 4, when he surged and I had no response. I felt just fine, no complaints about stomach, body, or mind.  I just didn't have the turnover to keep up today. I had no punch at mile 6, as my awful split shows.  Jon ran really well and it was fun to race with him again.

It's a nice course; relatively flat with a few variations in the terrain, but nothing you could legitimately call a "hill." They need to start the race much earlier, get the aid stations set up early, get some mile markers in place, and most of all get the course certified.

Here are the splits:

5:34/5:40/5:48/5:53/5:52/6:10/5:53/0:53 (for .15)

Nice Job Chad. Kind of takes the wind out of your sails on mile 6 when you know you aren't even close to being done. But more importantly...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy birthday! I would love to celabrate my b-day with a race, but it is in the dead of winter so I just go for a run. Great job on the race.

Happy Birthday from the STG chapter of the blog. Solid race today. The distance sounds a little messed up. 7.1 mile 10k = email to the race director to tell then to get it right next time.

I'm thinking the race director knew it was your b-day and decided to give you an extra mile as a present!

Happy Birthday, Chad! Thanks again for the invite and generosity. It was great to see you again. You'll have to let me know the next time you are up here and want to do a long run somewhere in the mountains. Nice job today on an... interesting race. I'm sure they will fix the problems so next year will be real good. Still very enjoyable. Some days we just don't have that extra umph needed to close out the race, but I know you were just saving yours for WBR next week! Thanks again and have a great birthday!

Happy Birthday! You have to love the races that are off by so far.

Jon,

That is the absolute worst happy birthday song I have never heard!

Happy Birthday and enjoy Bear Lake.

A race being that far off really takes some wind out of your sails. I ran a 10K last summer that was really about 6.5M, but your race was seriously off.

Looks like the race was officially 7.1 miles. And it looks like they are responding to all the comments so next years race should be better.
